David Muggeridge will be representing the Collingwood Elvis Festival in Memphis from Aug. 9-17 at the Ultimate
Elvis Tribute Artist Contest.

The 36-year-old, who was originally from Montreal, but now lives in Mount Airry North Carolina, was named the
grand champion of the festival.

Muggeridge won the Professional-Concert Years' title and received the best overall score.

"I'm really speechless," said Muggeridge, who has been attending the festival since 2002. "I didn't expect it at all.
There are no losers here. This is the cream of the crop."

Doug Thompson is one of the judges and said there is a list of criteria, but the major deciding factor is "do you
look and sound like Elvis and do you capture the spirit of Elvis."

"If you closed your eyes it sounded like him and if you opened your eyes, it looked like him," he said of
Muggeridge's performance.

Muggeridge was honoured to win and was thrilled at the reaction he received from the more than 2,000 people
at the grand finals at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena on Sunday.

"To hear them erupt like that, it sends a tingle up your spine," he said.
